Alou Rural Women's Council in CameroonThe Social Justice Fund supports the Alou Rural Women’s Council in Cameroon, working in partnership with International Children’s Awareness (ICA) to form women’s cooperatives aimed at sustainable development and economic autonomy. The formation of cooperatives allows women to pool resources, enabling them to reduce their workload. They combine their unpaid labour with independent production to meet the needs of their families and to attain some measure of autonomy, self-reliance, and decision-making powers. Proceeds are also used to support seminars on HIV/AIDS, adult education and training women in child care. SJF contribution: $3,000, May 2006.
