Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean Regional Social Justice ForumThis regional forum provided an opportunity to regroup trade union members, women, the unemployed, immigrants, pensioners, farmers and youth to discuss the economic sustainability and social and cultural development of the Saguenay-Lac St. Jean region. Over the last years, the region has been hard hit with high unemployment rates and the massive exodus of youth. The Forum was inspired by the World Social Forums in Porto Alegre and Venezuela. It gathered 1,350 members of civil society to engage in a series of workshops, cultural presentations, round table discussions on environmental alternatives, and local initiatives toward sustainable and equitable development and a shared vision for a more equitable society.
