International White Band Month of Action 2006

DMC_0003.JPGThe Edmonton HR Committee joined forces with Public Interest Alberta (PIA) and Alberta Public Interest Research Group (APIRG) at the STAND UP challenge in Edmonton Alberta.

Sunday afternoon, October 15th, 2006, 100 citizens came out to STAND UP in solidarity.

DMC_0002.JPGA concert, various speakers and social activists brought their own special touch to the day.  The Raging Grannies came out to sing a couple numbers.  Love the Raging Grannies!

The organizing committee brought global awareness nationally, provincially and locally thanks to speakers such as, Father Ed Kennedy – Quality of Life Commission, Janice Melnychuk – Edmonton City Councillor, Rev. Bruce Miller – Alberta Liberal MLA, Dan Backs – Alberta Liberal MLA, Brian Mason – Leader Alberta NDP, Gil McGowan – President Alberta Federation of Labour, Fiona Cavanagh – Change for Children, Samantha Power – President of the Student Union, University of Alberta, Bill Moore-Kilgannon – Executive Director of Public Interest Alberta, Cara More – Chair of the PSAC Edmonton Human Rights Committee and a message read on behalf of Marjorie Benz – Edmonton Food Bank.

Food and donations were collected for the local the Edmonton Food Bank.
