Make Poverty History in Restigouche
The Campbellton Regional Women's Committee of the Public Service Alliance of Canada organized a poverty-awareness walk in Restigouche, New Brunswick on Oct. 17, International Day for the Elimination of Poverty.
As part of the Canada-wide Day of Action, the Committee called on members and the public in general to work in solidarity to abolish poverty in the Restigouche county.
The walk began around noon from Restigouche's City Center Mall and ended at the Riverside Park, where guests made short speeches.
The committee also raised funds during the event to support food banks in the county, and fundraising continues until the end of November.
Associations, organizations and banking institutions were asked for donations.
The Make Poverty History white wrist bands were given to the first 200 people who contributed $3 or more.
