Halifax: Make Poverty History Family Day

On Saturday, August 20, 2005, the PSAC in Halifax, NS, helped organize and took part in a Make Poverty History family day at the Halifax Commons.

The event was hosted and organized by the Halifax Make Poverty History Coalition, of which the PSAC is an active participant.

Interactive games such as Debt sack races, letter writing to Honduran pen pals and building burlap homes entertained children and adults. Participants were asked to wear white T-shirts and, at the closing of the event, all 150 remaining participants held hands and circled the large city fountain forming a giant white Make Poverty History band.

The Public Service Alliance of Canada, Canadian Cross Roads International, Oxfam Canada, the Halifax Anti-poverty Coalition and other community partners worked to make this a very successful, fun and educational day.
